Member of Parliament Hendrik Tevreden has submitted questions to the responsible minister about the policy, structure and workload of Aruba’s Department of Labor Progress, known as DPL.
Questions follow an employee account
Tevreden said an employee approached his party with concerns that some staff members have had little meaningful work for approximately a year and a half. The account was presented anonymously and has not been independently verified.
The MP acknowledged that the claims require verification but said they are serious enough to warrant an official response. He asked the minister to explain DPL’s current policy and vision, changes following developments involving DIMAS, results from an ICT assessment and Quick Scan, and how the local labor market is being protected.
Concerns arise during proposed restructuring
The questions about Aruba DPL direction come days after officials discussed a possible reorganization of DPL and the Department of Labor and Research. In June, the government approved a US$65,000 assessment concerning DIMAS and DPL, according to the source.
Tevreden said his purpose is to seek clarity and support for workers rather than blame them. The source did not include the minister’s answers, and the employee allegations should therefore be treated as claims pending official review.
