Aruba tourism staffing shortages are putting pressure on business operations as demand remains high, Miriam Dabian of the Aruba Food & Beverage Association told DIARIO in an interview published on October 23.
Year-round demand complicates staff planning
Dabian said employers face difficulties filling shifts, weekends and holidays. She described strong tourism demand through much of the year, making it harder to cover employees’ leave and maintain service levels.
She said the association’s fifth job fair helped it understand the pool of people seeking work. Her comments describe employers’ experiences rather than findings from a completed statistical study.
Registration obstacles affect some foreign workers
Dabian also raised concerns about foreign hospitality workers who have permits but are not registered at Censo. According to her account, this can complicate payroll arrangements, banking and AZV registration, leaving some workers paid in cash and vulnerable if they become ill.
She said AFBA had found a more receptive response from DIMAS and Minister Arthur Dowers over the past year while continuing to seek solutions. The report does not announce a new registration policy or guarantee that any individual worker qualifies for coverage.
