ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Minister of Sport Gerlien Croes has reaffirmed that the action plan for the maintenance of sports facilities is proceeding firmly. Work for this year began with integral maintenance at the Sabana Grandi field, with projects also implemented at the Calbas, Duracell, and Grasshoppers locations as part of a broader strategy to improve infrastructure across the island.
The execution of these projects involves close collaboration between the Ministry of Sport, the Ministry of Infrastructure, and the Department of Public Works (DOW). Technical teams are continuing their structural and periodic efforts to guarantee that sports fields and courts remain in optimal condition for the use of the community and athletes.
The 2026 plan builds upon the solid foundation of success achieved in 2025, where systematic maintenance resulted in concrete improvements at various facilities. Minister Croes emphasized that maintenance is a pillar for sports development.
“Maintenance is key to sustainability. We believe in sports as an instrument for social development and a healthy lifestyle. Infrastructure in good condition is essential to achieve this,” said Croes.
The continuity of this plan focuses on implementing a preventive and periodic maintenance system, guaranteeing the responsible use of public funds. Minister Croes expressed her gratitude to DOW and all collaborators contributing to these efforts, reaffirming the commitment to expand the sports field maintenance program to include more facilities.
