ORANJESTAD, Aruba — The AFTA Aruba 2026 Report covering the first six months of the year has been presented to Justice Minister Arthur Dowers, providing an update on the financial position and accountability of the Aruba Fair Trade Authority.

The report covers the period from January 1 through June 30, 2026 and forms part of AFTA’s periodic reporting responsibilities as an independent public authority.

A key element of the report is the independent evaluation of AFTA’s interim financial figures by Grant Thornton Aruba.

According to the information presented, the independent accountant did not identify findings that would provide reason to conclude that the interim financial reporting was materially inconsistent with the applicable reporting standards.

AFTA Aruba 2026 Report Independently Reviewed

The independent review of the AFTA Aruba 2026 Report is intended to strengthen confidence in the authority’s financial management and reporting.

Minister Dowers emphasized the importance of periodic reporting for organizations carrying public responsibilities.

He highlighted three principles in particular: transparency, accountability and good governance.

Public authorities, the minister said, should provide clear information about how they operate and how public financial resources are managed.

Independent examination of financial information can contribute to a more careful and transparent way of working.

Six-Month Reporting Supports Accountability

AFTA’s governance arrangements provide for regular financial and operational accountability.

Under its formal relationship framework, AFTA is required to provide the responsible minister with a six-month report containing both financial and general information.

The reporting process gives government officials an opportunity to review how the independent authority is functioning while maintaining AFTA’s statutory independence.

The AFTA Aruba 2026 Report therefore represents more than a routine financial update. It forms part of the accountability structure surrounding an authority responsible for promoting fair competition and protecting market interests in Aruba.

Minister Praises AFTA Reporting

Dowers expressed appreciation for the work completed by AFTA and for the presentation of the six-month report.

He said organizations entrusted with public responsibilities should demonstrate clearly how they carry out their duties and manage their finances.

The independent financial review was also highlighted as an important part of maintaining responsible governance.

AFTA continues to carry out its statutory responsibilities from an independent position while reporting periodically on its activities and financial management.

AFTA Continues Independent Role

The Aruba Fair Trade Authority was established to supervise competition and fair-market practices in Aruba.

Its responsibilities have expanded as Aruba strengthens consumer protection and competition oversight.

Periodic reporting provides government and the public with additional insight into how the authority operates and uses its resources.

The AFTA Aruba 2026 Report covering the first half of the year reinforces that accountability process by combining financial reporting with independent review.

For the government, the report also supports the broader objective of ensuring that public institutions operate transparently, responsibly and in accordance with established governance standards.
