ORANJESTAD, Aruba – The Hadicurari Fishing Tournament attracted a large crowd of local residents and tourists on Saturday, creating a lively seaside atmosphere as fishermen returned with their catches and visitors gathered to watch the activity along Hadicurari Beach.
The popular tournament once again demonstrated the strong connection between Aruba’s fishing traditions and the wider community. Throughout the day, spectators gathered near the shoreline to see the boats return and observe the different fish brought in by participating teams.
Visitors also had an opportunity to watch fishermen clean and prepare their catches before the fish were used for cooking and other activities connected to the event.
The tournament attracted considerable attention from tourists who happened to be in the Hadicurari area. Once visitors learned that the fishing event was taking place, many stopped to take photographs and watch the fishermen bring their catches ashore.
Some of the biggest attractions were the large fish displayed during the event, including several impressive catches that drew attention from spectators.
Arthur Giel, president of Fundacion Centro di Pesca Hadicurari, remained active throughout the day, moving between different areas of the event and assisting participating fishermen.
According to the report, Giel regularly responded to questions from fishermen and helped coordinate activities, demonstrating the amount of organization required to keep such a large event running smoothly.
The Hadicurari Fishing Tournament was held directly on the beach in front of Hadicurari and was organized in collaboration with Santa Rosa and Aruba Wine & Dine.
The partnership added a broader community and culinary component to the competition, allowing the tournament to become more than just a fishing event.
Activities ran from approximately 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., giving families, fishing enthusiasts and tourists several hours to enjoy the atmosphere.
The beach location provided visitors with a close view of the fishing activity and created an informal setting where participants and spectators could interact.
The event also highlighted Aruba’s traditional fishing culture. Fishing has played an important role in the island’s history and continues to be practiced by local fishermen who maintain knowledge and skills passed down through generations.
Events such as the Hadicurari tournament help bring that tradition closer to the public while giving fishermen an opportunity to demonstrate their experience and compete in a friendly community setting.
The strong turnout also showed that fishing events can attract interest beyond the participating teams themselves.
Local residents came to support fishermen and enjoy the day, while tourists were introduced to another side of Aruba that goes beyond the island’s beaches and hotel areas.
For many visitors, watching the fish arrive and seeing the preparation process offered a direct look at local fishing practices.
The Hadicurari Fishing Tournament was described as both successful and enjoyable, with steady activity throughout the day and strong public interest.
Organizers and partners helped create an event that combined sport, local culture, tourism and community participation in one seaside setting.
