Papiamento den Hofi Cultural Celebration Set for May 27: Fundacion Lanta Papiamento (FLP) has announced a cultural evening titled “Papiamento den Hofi” dedicated to celebrating and promoting the Papiamento language. The event is scheduled to take place on May 27, 2026, at the Sala y Cura di Arubiana, the department of the Biblioteca Nacional Aruba (BNA) situated on Bachstraat 5.
In a statement regarding the announcement, FLP expressed satisfaction that various organizations in Aruba dedicated attention to Papiamento on May 21. This date marks the 23rd anniversary of the language’s officialization on the island. The foundation noted that this focus indicates a growing awareness within the community regarding the value of the language as a vital part of national identity and cultural heritage.
The agenda for “Papiamento den Hofi” includes a video exhibition regarding the history and development of Papiamento, followed by group discussions. The evening will feature a diverse range of artistic and educational activities, including talks, poetry readings, storytelling, music, and dance. Additionally, there will be a book blessing and an open microphone session for attendees wishing to recite a poem or share a short story.
The event is open to the public of all ages and will run from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with free admission. Community members interested in participating in the open mic segment can register upon arrival or in advance by phone or WhatsApp at 567-4699.
