On Monday, the Joint Court of Justice began hearing the appeal for the ‘Flamingo’ case. This corruption investigation involves former Minister and Parliamentarian Otmar Oduber (O.E.O.) and two former civil servants, identified as E.F.E. and R.I.W.
The case centers on allegations of abuse of function, fraud, and passive corruption between 2017 and 2020. In a ruling on January 22, 2025, the Court in First Instance convicted Oduber of complicity in fraud and abuse of ministerial function. At that time, he was sentenced to time served plus 240 hours of community service, while being acquitted of passive corruption. Both the Public Prosecutor and the defense appealed the verdict.
During the current proceedings, the Public Prosecutor (OM) has requested an unconditional prison sentence of three years for Oduber.
