Aruba’s sports community has recently seen a surge of activity, ranging from international accolades to major local elections. Highlights include Hugo Themen’s victory at the Pan American Championship and the conclusion of the 20th annual Aruba Bank Walk & Run.
Hugo Themen won a gold medal at the Pan American Master-South Central American and Caribbean Championship. Minister Gerlien Croes highlighted the athlete’s achievement. Additionally, Aruba recently hosted the ‘Women in Para Sports Americas’ summit, marking a significant step for para-sports development on the island.
Locally, the Aruba Bank Walk & Run 2026 celebrated its 20th edition at Camacuri, culminating in an event focused on health and community connection. The Caribbean Mercantile Bank N.V. (CMB) also participated in a Bike, Run & Walk-a-Thon organized by the Brighter Future Academy Foundation.
In team sports, the Copa Noord 2026 continued with recent matchups. Royal Power Tat Fat secured an 11-9 win against Stingers, while Yoyo Power defeated Salbabo 9-1. Kudawecha Indians staged a rally to defeat Royal Power Tat Fat 4-3. Elsewhere, the Aruba Basketball Bond initiated its first 3×3 basketball tournament of the year. Meanwhile, the Aruba Volleyball Association held a General Members Meeting where Rubinah Bernadina was elected to the new board.
