ORANJESTAD – Artists from the Dutch Caribbean were celebrated during a special showcase at Filmhuis Den Haag as part of the Where Culture Lives research program, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW).
Held on June 23, 2026, the event highlighted winners of the program’s Artist Prize and brought together talented creators from the six Dutch Caribbean islands to present their work to an international audience.
Representing Aruba was Ariadne Wever, who showcased her short documentary series Legado di Famia (Family Legacy), inspired by Aruba’s identity, history and everyday community life.
The Where Culture Lives initiative aims to document, map and strengthen the rich cultural heritage of the Dutch Caribbean. Beyond preserving historical records, the project emphasizes how culture continues to thrive through traditions, art, music, language, cuisine and daily community life.
Organizers said the showcase demonstrated how artists help preserve intangible cultural heritage while strengthening cultural identity and social cohesion throughout the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Special thanks were also extended to UNOCA for co-financing the Legado di Famia project.
