Aruba has introduced what representatives describe as the Caribbean’s first fully electric beach-cleaning robot, bringing new technology to the effort to maintain the island’s coastline.
The Bebot Beach Cleaner was presented and demonstrated at Eagle Beach during a press conference held by the Minister of Tourism. The compact machine was shown operating directly on the sand.
Electric alternative for beach maintenance
Aruba has previously used larger beach-cleaning machines powered by diesel. Although those machines can clean broad areas effectively, their size limits access to tighter sections of the beach.
The Bebot is smaller and more flexible. Its compact design allows it to work in places that larger equipment cannot easily reach, while its electric operation produces no emissions during use.
Alex Mansur, director of Varadero Caribe N.V., said extensive research was conducted before the company selected and introduced the technology. He linked the investment to quality, innovation and environmental responsibility, as well as the government’s goal of supporting more sustainable tourism.
First robot of its kind in the Caribbean
A representative of the company that developed the Bebot said the machine was created by an engineering business specializing in environmentally friendly robots. According to the representative, the unit introduced in Aruba is the first robot of its kind operating in the Caribbean.
The company plans to keep the machine in Aruba for the coming years so it can support continued beach-maintenance work.
Protecting an essential tourism resource
Tourism Minister Wendrick Cicilia welcomed the use of modern technology for beach care. He emphasized that Aruba’s beaches are among the island’s most important natural resources and a central part of its tourism offering.
Because residents and visitors can readily access the beaches, maintaining their cleanliness and quality remains an important public responsibility. The new electric machine adds a lower-emission and more maneuverable option to Aruba’s existing maintenance equipment.
