BBO Compliance Reaches 90% Through Digitalization
Luenne Gomez Pieters, Director of the Department of Taxation (DIMP), reports that BBO compliance with the General Sales Tax has reached 90%, a significant increase over the past decade.
When Gomez Pieters assumed the directorship approximately 10 years ago, compliance stood at 60% while relying on manual processes. Following the digitalization and automation of departmental procedures, the rate rose to 70% and has now climbed to 90% for BBO payments.
Border BBO Collection System Success
Regarding the collection of BBO at the border, the director noted that merchants initially had reservations about the system. However, DIMP has since implemented a live connection with the Customs Department, allowing payments made via the ASYCUDA system to flow directly into the ‘Bo Impuesto’ portal.
Positive Feedback from Private Sector
Gomez Pieters stated that merchants have expressed satisfaction with the portal’s efficiency and the processing of tax restitutions. She emphasized DIMP’s commitment to facilitating the private sector and expressed satisfaction with the current working relationship, which has contributed to improved BBO compliance.
