Oduber Questions Limited Asphalt Budget in DOW 2026 Plan

Dangui Oduber Questions Limited Road Asphalting Budget

MEP faction member Dangui Oduber has voiced strong criticism regarding the 2026 budget for the Department of Public Works (DOW), specifically targeting the allocation of only 3.5 million florin for road asphalting.

During a recent Parliament session where Minister of Infrastructure René Herde presented the DOW budget, Oduber questioned the disparity between the government’s reported financial health and the funds available for infrastructure. He pointed out that while officials frequently highlight a 500 million florin surplus and strong credit ratings, the allocated amount for asphalt remains insufficient for widespread repairs.

Previous Administration Allocated More for Roads

Oduber noted that the current administration removed 18 million florin that the previous Wever-Croes 2 cabinet had designated for road asphalting. With the reduced budget of 3.5 million florin, Oduber stated that only about 7.5 kilometers of road can be addressed. He argued that for a country producing 7 billion florin, the allocation is minimal and does not provide the necessary relief for residents.
