DIMP Prioritizes Cybersecurity in Aruba’s Digital Tax System

ORANJESTAD (AAN) – DIMP Director Luenne Gomez-Pieters stated during a press conference that cybersecurity standards have become a major priority as the Aruba Tax Department continues expanding its digital services.

According to Gomez-Pieters, DIMP recognizes that the world is becoming increasingly digital, making data protection and cybersecurity essential for the department’s operations.

“Data security is a very important point on the agenda of the Tax Department. We are also being advised on which standards we must apply when setting up our systems,” Gomez-Pieters explained.

She stated that DIMP uses standardized systems to protect taxpayer data and has monitoring systems operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week to supervise the platform.

Gomez-Pieters explained that in the past, taxpayers only submitted information into DIMP systems, after which the department processed declarations and issued tax assessments. Late submissions could result in fines.

Now, with the launch of the BOi digital platform, taxpayers can directly access information stored in the system, including personal data such as addresses and bank account information.

She noted that many taxpayers contact DIMP regarding delayed tax refunds, but in several cases the issue is caused by outdated or missing bank account information within the system.

Through the new digital portal, taxpayers can now independently verify and update their information, similar to customer portals used by companies such as Setar and Elmar.

“The taxpayer can log into their account and review their account status directly through the portal,” Gomez-Pieters concluded.
