ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Aruban Olympic Committee (COA) is always excited to welcome new sports to the island and to support the development of athletes in various fields. Recently, COA had the opportunity to meet with Morwenna Minguel-Meijer, the President and Coach of the Archery Federation of Curaçao, who was accompanied by Suzette Dumfries, a local who has shown great interest in archery and is eager to help establish an archery federation in Aruba.

The meeting focused on the exciting potential of archery, an Olympic sport that has been gaining popularity in the region. During the discussion, Minguel-Meijer outlined the process of starting a federation and what it takes to become affiliated with COA once the federation is established. She emphasized the importance of building a strong foundation for the sport in Aruba and how the federation can grow through collaboration with neighboring countries like Curaçao.

Minguel-Meijer shared valuable information about how archery is developing in Curaçao, including how they have been able to engage and train athletes who are now competing at a high level. With support from the COA, archers from Aruba will have the opportunity to participate in prestigious events like the Pan American Games and the Olympic Games.

COA expressed its support for the idea of an archery federation in Aruba and welcomed the opportunity to assist in the establishment process. It was made clear that with the right structure in place, Aruba’s archery athletes could soon be competing on international stages, representing the island and potentially adding another sport to the growing number of TEAMARU athletes.

The discussion ended with a sense of excitement about the future of archery in Aruba. COA expressed its gratitude to Minguel-Meijer and Dumfries for their visit and their enthusiasm for the sport. With COA’s help, there is a strong possibility that archery will become a well-established and competitive sport in Aruba, providing new opportunities for local athletes.
