The Aruba Tax Department has issued a reminder that more than 15% of registered vehicles on the island have not yet paid their motor vehicle tax. In a public statement via Facebook, officials warned that arrears for the first half of 2026 are growing due to accumulating interest and additional administrative charges.
Taxpayers who have not paid the initial installment are subject to a 50% fine and may receive a supplementary assessment. The department stressed that vehicle owners cannot settle the tax for the second half of the year until the first half is fully paid. With the deadline for the second-half payment set for June 30, 2026, owners are encouraged to check the BO impuesto (BOi) portal to view their total debt and pay via their bank or at DIMP offices.
The non-compliance rate is detailed across several vehicle classes. Personal vehicles (Category A) account for the majority with 13,027 unpaid units. In the commercial sector, 690 rental cars and 236 touring vehicles have outstanding payments. Public transportation figures show 22 taxis and 14 buses have not paid. Other categories with unpaid taxes include 893 motorcycles, 178 diesel trucks, and 200 license plates. The Tax Department advises that leaving debt unpaid is not an option and requests immediate settlement to avoid further penalties.
