77-Year-Old Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck Near Crosswalk on Pastoor Hendrikstraat

A tragic traffic incident occurred in San Nicolas on Monday, resulting in the death of 77-year-old Vincent Antonio Rohan, who lived just 30 meters from the site of the accident.

Monday morning began with heavy, intermittent rainfall that caused traffic disruptions across San Nicolas, making it difficult for children walking to school. By around 10 a.m., the rain stopped, and residents relying on public transportation took shelter at the bus stop on Pastoor Hendrikstraat near the ImSan Medical Center.

Later that same day, around midday, a call reached the Police Central Dispatch reporting that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian at the crosswalk near the “Eben-Haëzer Kerk” church, approximately 195 meters from the bus stop. Police patrols and an ImSan ambulance were immediately dispatched. The accident site was located just 290 meters from the ambulance station.

Upon arrival, officers found the male victim lying critically injured near the front of a home at Pastoor Hendrikstraat 23, roughly 15 meters away from the point of impact. The force of the collision had projected him forward, and even his boots were found about 20 meters from the crosswalk.

Paramedics quickly stabilized the victim and transported him urgently to the emergency department, with police securing key intersections to provide a clear path for the ambulance. Traffic specialists and the forensic team (BFTO) conducted a detailed investigation at the scene, placing forensic markers and documenting evidence.

Victim support services were notified to assist the family.

The victim remained in critical condition throughout Monday night and Tuesday. Sadly, at 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday, he succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased, Vincent Antonio Rohan, born in Aruba on September 12, 1948, became the ninth traffic fatality of 2025. Police have not released details about the driver, but witnesses reported seeing a white compact SUV partially stopped on the road and sidewalk after the collision.

Authorities urge all motorists to drive cautiously, leave earlier when possible, avoid speeding, follow traffic regulations, and stay attentive—especially on busy roads.

The Aruba Police Force and DIARIO extend their deepest condolences to the family of Vincent A. Rohan.
