ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Cuida Aruba Contractors are joining the islandwide cleanup effort after Prime Minister Mike Eman met with crews at the Department of Public Works, or DOW, in Sabana Blanco ahead of the August 28–29 initiative.

According to information provided about the meeting, Eman visited DOW this week to speak with contractors and provide additional details about their role in the second edition of Cuida Aruba.

The contractors are expected to begin their work on Friday, August 28, and continue supporting cleanup activities on Saturday, August 29.

The Government of Aruba has confirmed that the second Cuida Aruba campaign is designed as a two-day national effort involving government, businesses, organizations, volunteers and residents.

Cuida Aruba Contractors Support Two-Day Effort

The participation of Cuida Aruba Contractors adds operational support to a campaign intended to bring different sectors of Aruba together around cleaning, volunteering and preparation for the rainy season.

Friday’s activities focus mainly on organized volunteer efforts involving businesses, hotels, schools, scouting groups, community organizations and youth groups.

Saturday shifts more attention toward residents cleaning their homes, neighborhoods and surrounding areas while making use of designated waste collection points.

DOW is also contributing heavy equipment for areas such as canals, roadsides and locations requiring specialized machinery.

Eman’s meeting with contractors was intended to help ensure participating crews understand the work expected during the two-day operation.

Six Waste Sites Open Saturday

Residents can dispose of waste at six strategic locations on Saturday, August 29, from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

The locations are:

  • San Nicolas: Trupial Field
  • Pos Chikito/Burubundo: Baseball field
  • Barcadera: EcoTech Waste Zone
  • Santa Cruz: Arsenal Field
  • Oranjestad: Harbour Arena
  • Tanki Leendert: Field next to Colegio Ora Ubao

The government reduced the number of collection sites compared with the first Cuida Aruba campaign to improve coordination between trucks, containers and waste-processing operations.

Government Calls for Shared Responsibility

Eman has repeatedly emphasized that Cuida Aruba should develop into more than an occasional cleanup campaign.

He has described the initiative as an effort to build a stronger sense of shared responsibility among government, private businesses and residents for maintaining the island.

The involvement of Cuida Aruba Contractors is part of that wider cooperation.

Contractors will work alongside government services, volunteers and other participating organizations as cleanup activities take place across Aruba.

Serlimar is also increasing operational capacity with additional personnel and waste containers, while DOW is providing machinery for areas requiring heavier cleanup work.

Community Invited to Participate

Residents who want to contribute can use Saturday’s six waste collection locations between 7:00 a.m. and noon.

Organizers are encouraging people to follow instructions at the collection points so trucks and containers can move efficiently throughout the morning.

With Cuida Aruba Contractors, government agencies, businesses, volunteers and residents participating, the second edition aims to demonstrate how coordinated action can help keep Aruba cleaner while improving preparedness ahead of the rainy season.
