ORANJESTAD – Aruba’s Ministry of Kingdom Relations, Education, Youth, Innovation and Sport has officially approved new promotion standards for public primary schools under the Department of Public Schools (DPS), placing greater emphasis on inclusion and individualized assessment.
The updated policy establishes a uniform, transparent and fair framework for evaluating whether students advance to the next grade. It also strengthens support for students with intellectual, developmental and learning disabilities, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia and language development disorders.
Under the new standards, schools must follow established care procedures and ensure promotion decisions are made through collaboration between teachers, internal guidance staff, care teams and parents. The ministry said the approach prioritizes each student’s educational development rather than applying rigid promotion rules.
Education Minister Gerlien Croes said the policy reinforces the government’s commitment to inclusive, high-quality education and equal opportunities for every child in Aruba.
