JOIA Aruba Vegan Training Earns Certification

ORANJESTAD, Aruba — JOIA Aruba Vegan Training has resulted in certification for members of the resort’s Food & Beverage and culinary teams after they successfully completed specialized instruction focused on vegan-friendly hospitality and plant-based cuisine.

JOIA Aruba by Iberostar says the achievement represents another step in its efforts to strengthen employee skills, improve the culinary experience for guests and support a more responsible tourism model.

The specialized training focused on giving team members practical knowledge needed to prepare, adapt and serve high-quality vegan-friendly food while maintaining the standards expected at the luxury resort.

JOIA Aruba Vegan Training Expands Skills

The training covered several areas connected to vegan hospitality.

Participants learned about ingredient standards, terminology, plant-based cuisine, preparation techniques and ways of identifying animal-derived ingredients that may be less obvious to guests and culinary professionals.

The program also addressed animal products that can sometimes be used during beverage production and processing.

Employees received instruction on accommodating vegan dietary preferences while maintaining appropriate standards of service.

Another component involved analyzing sales information and considering how demand for plant-based dining can influence future menu planning.

Existing Dishes Adapted for Vegan Guests

A significant part of the program focused on modifying existing menu items rather than simply creating an entirely separate collection of vegan dishes.

Culinary employees learned how recipes and preparation techniques can be adjusted so additional dishes become suitable for vegan guests.

The objective is to increase the number of plant-based options while preserving taste, presentation and overall quality.

JOIA Aruba has been working toward having approximately 30% plant-based options across its dining venues.

The approach allows vegan-friendly dining to become part of the resort’s broader culinary experience rather than being treated as a separate offering.

Training Supports Responsible Tourism

The JOIA Aruba Vegan Training initiative also connects with Iberostar’s broader sustainability strategy.

Through its Wave of Change movement, Iberostar has promoted environmental initiatives involving climate action, nature protection, responsible consumption and changes intended to reduce the environmental impact of its hotel operations.

Increasing plant-based food choices forms part of that effort.

The company says expanding these options can provide guests with greater choice while contributing to efforts to reduce the climate impact associated with food.

Certification Recognizes Employee Knowledge

The certification recognizes the knowledge and practical abilities team members developed through the training program.

For JOIA Aruba, the achievement is also an investment in professional development.

Food & Beverage and culinary employees play a significant role in the overall guest experience, and additional training allows them to respond more confidently to changing dietary preferences.

Continuous professional education can also give employees opportunities to expand their skills while strengthening operational standards throughout the resort.

Chef Ludwich Praises Team

Chef Ludwich said the initiative supports JOIA Aruba’s effort to continue improving both the employee and guest experience.

He said the certification reflects the team’s willingness to learn, commitment to quality and ability to transform new knowledge into meaningful improvements for visitors.

The training also demonstrates how professional development can contribute to both employee growth and improvements in hotel operations.

Plant-Based Dining Growing at JOIA Aruba

JOIA Aruba has already been developing its plant-based dining program as part of its wider sustainability strategy.

Rather than limiting vegan choices to one restaurant or special menu, the resort has worked to integrate plant-based dishes across multiple dining experiences.

The JOIA Aruba Vegan Training certification builds on that approach by ensuring employees have the knowledge needed to prepare the food correctly and answer guest questions about ingredients and dietary requirements.

For Iberostar, the latest certification combines employee development, sustainable hospitality and culinary innovation.

The company says empowering its teams with additional professional skills can create long-term benefits for employees while providing guests with a broader and more inclusive dining experience in Aruba.
