A ceremony held Thursday afternoon officially dedicated the roundabout near the MFA building in Noord as the Ovito Tromp Roundabout Aruba, honoring one of the community’s most beloved figures.
Minister of Infrastructure René Herdé revealed that the decision to name the roundabout after Benito “Ovito” Tromp was originally made in 2017 but had only now been formally carried out. The inauguration was attended by numerous family members, friends, and community members who gathered to celebrate Tromp’s legacy.
Tromp was a fixture in the Noord community, widely recognized for his tireless involvement in local initiatives and activities. A school teacher by profession, he was equally known for his generosity — always ready to lend a hand to children, adults, and seniors alike.
“He was a person with many talents and great dedication, an example of what it means to serve your country,” Minister Herdé said during the ceremony.
Jourick Blanco, president of the sports division of the Noord Community Centre (CBN), addressed the crowd on behalf of the Tromp family. He expressed deep gratitude for the tribute, calling it a powerful symbol of volunteerism in Noord and a meaningful recognition of Tromp’s lifelong commitment to his community.
The newly named Ovito Tromp Roundabout now stands as a permanent reminder of a man who dedicated his life to serving others in Noord.
