The Government of Aruba, in collaboration with ImSan, has officially launched a Multidisciplinary Diabetes Center designed to provide integral care for residents living with the condition. The pilot project aims to focus on prevention, professional follow-up, and improving the quality of life for diabetic patients.
Minister of Public Health, drs. Mervin Wyatt-Ras, announced the official launch, highlighting that approximately 11% of Aruba’s population lives with diabetes. He noted that the condition affects not only the patient but also their families and the broader healthcare system. The initiative was developed through a collaboration involving ImSan, the Hospital, and various health professionals coordinated by the DVG.
The center will offer a multidisciplinary approach led by Dr. Karina Kelly, an internist affiliated with the Hospital. The care team includes medical specialists, diabetes nurses, dietitians, social workers, and podiatrists. Minister Wyatt-Ras emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government’s vision to strengthen preventive care and create sustainable health solutions.
The government expressed gratitude to the Tijdelijke Werkorganisatie (TWO) of the Netherlands for providing the subsidy that made the initiative possible.
