ORANJESTAD – The Aruba Marine Mammal Foundation (AMMF) has confirmed that the stranded dolphin named Charlie died on Monday night. The death follows a period of intense care and a two-week rescue effort designed to save the animal after it stranded on the island and initially showed signs of recovery.
According to the official communication from AMMF, volunteers had been holding Charlie in the water to prevent drowning, as the mammal was unable to float independently. Despite this constant dedication, the dolphin’s condition declined rapidly. Charlie passed away peacefully at approximately 11:35 PM while supported by volunteers. The foundation stated that the animal did not suffer during its final moments.
The rescue operation mobilized a large portion of the community, drawing volunteers, experts, and concerned citizens who worked together to give the dolphin a chance to survive. Social media platforms were filled with expressions of sadness and gratitude regarding the efforts made. AMMF extended its deep appreciation to everyone who contributed time and support, noting that the community’s involvement allowed Charlie to fight for his life until the very end.
An autopsy is currently being conducted to determine the specific causes behind the dolphin’s deterioration and death. The AMMF announced that more details will be shared at a later date. This event marks the end of an emotional chapter for local marine life defenders, highlighting the compassion of the volunteers who supported the animal throughout its struggle.
