Stabbing Case Postponed for Evaluation
ORANJESTAD – A court case involving suspect E.B.C., accused of attempting to kill a woman by stabbing her in the throat, has been postponed to allow for a psychiatric evaluation. The Judge granted the request following a defense argument that the suspect does not recall the events.
The Prosecutor alleges that on February 11, 2026, E.B.C. tried to kill the victim, identified as E., by stabbing her multiple times with a knife. The suspect, along with family members and the victim, was present in the courtroom.
Defense attorney Mr. Arends Marchena requested the postponement to facilitate further investigation, specifically asking for a psychiatric evaluation. The attorney stated that E.B.C. claims to have no memory of the incident. Additionally, the lawyer requested the interrogation of a male witness, A.B., who arrived at the scene immediately after the event, to testify regarding the suspect’s emotional state and observations. The defense also requested the inclusion of security camera footage.
The Prosecutor stated they had no objection to the video evidence or the psychiatric evaluation. The Judge approved the request to hear witness A.B. and ordered the evaluation. The case was rescheduled for September 4, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. The victim informed the court that she would not file a claim for damages but intends to exercise her right to speak.
