ORANJESTAD (AAN) – National Clean-Up Day Exceeds Expectations Across Aruba as thousands of residents joined an island-wide cleanup campaign that collected more than 211 tons of waste, more than doubling the event’s original target.
The National Day to Care for Aruba was organized by the Government of Aruba in partnership with Serlimar, CEDE Aruba, DOW, and several public and private sector partners. Citizens from across the island participated in the coordinated effort to improve Aruba’s environment.
Cleanup Goal Surpassed
With 26 collection points established throughout Aruba, organizers initially set a goal of collecting 100 tons of waste in a single day.
According to the organizers, the campaign far exceeded expectations, with volunteers collecting more than 211 tons of waste, making the initiative one of the island’s largest community cleanup efforts.
Residents Welcome the Initiative
Residents in communities including Santa Cruz, Madiki, and the Country Club area expressed their satisfaction with the campaign.
Participants enthusiastically collected waste, cleaned their neighborhoods, and contributed to making Aruba cleaner and more attractive.
Many residents said the initiative should become a regular event, suggesting it be held once a month because keeping the island clean requires continuous community involvement.
Convenient Collection Points
Participants also praised the support provided by the Government of Aruba, particularly the collection points and logistical assistance.
Many noted that not every household has transportation or the financial means to dispose of bulky waste properly. The collection sites gave families a convenient and responsible way to discard large amounts of waste.
Community Spirit on Display
Throughout the day, families, friends, and neighbors worked together in a spirit of cooperation and pride.
Many participants also encouraged residents to avoid littering by disposing of bottles, plastic, and other waste properly instead of leaving it along roadsides, in natural areas, or in the sea.
They emphasized that Aruba is a paradise worth protecting and that every resident shares responsibility for preserving the island’s beauty.
Recognition for Leadership
Participants expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Mike Eman for his leadership and vision behind the initiative.
His campaign theme, “P’ami. P’abo. Pa nos tur.” (“For me. For you. For all of us.”), encouraged collaboration among government agencies, businesses, community organizations, volunteers, and residents in a shared commitment to caring for Aruba.
Looking Ahead
Residents hope the National Day to Care for Aruba will become an ongoing tradition rather than a one-time event.
They believe the success of the campaign demonstrated what can be achieved when the community works together and serves as a positive example for future generations.
The organizers concluded with a reminder that Aruba belongs to everyone, and caring for the island is a shared responsibility.
