ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba Government Encourages Groups to Join National Clean-Up Day after meeting with community organizations and volunteers to explain the goals of the initiative and increase participation across the island.
The meeting was held last week at the Bestuurskantoor and was attended by Prime Minister Mike Eman, along with representatives from several community organizations.
Government Explains Cleanup Campaign
During the meeting, government officials explained the objectives and organization of the National Day to Care for Aruba.
The initiative invited residents, companies, organizations, and volunteers to take an active role in cleaning, maintaining, and improving the appearance of the island.
In addition to removing waste, the campaign aimed to increase awareness that keeping Aruba clean and attractive is a shared responsibility.
CEDE Aruba Supports Volunteer Mobilization
Daniel Tecklenborg, director of CEDE Aruba, said cleanliness should not be viewed as the responsibility of government alone.
He emphasized that every resident, organization, and business has a role to play in protecting the island’s environment.
According to Tecklenborg, dedicating a national day to collective action is an effective way to strengthen cooperation within the community.
CEDE Aruba supported the initiative through its relationships with neighbourhood organizations and its volunteer platform. The organization also helped mobilize volunteer groups, identify areas requiring greater attention, and recommend collection points to support cleanup activities.
Scouting Aruba Focuses on Youth Awareness
Dave Martinus of Scouting Aruba described the campaign as an excellent initiative for keeping the island clean while increasing environmental awareness, particularly among young people.
Scouting Aruba viewed the event as an opportunity to teach children from an early age that everyone has an important role in caring for their surroundings.
Martinus expressed hope that the initiative would expand into schools and neighbourhoods so that caring for Aruba could become a permanent and sustainable community commitment.
Sonrisa Prepares Community Cleanup
Angelique Perez of Sonrisa confirmed that the organization was preparing to participate actively in the campaign.
Sonrisa planned to mobilize its clients and volunteers alongside Trampolin pa Trabao, Scouting Aruba, Sonrisa, and the Kiwanis Action Club.
The participating groups intended to focus their efforts mainly on the area surrounding Sonrisa, where a greater need for cleanup had been identified.
The Government of Aruba thanked all participating organizations and volunteers for supporting the national initiative and contributing to a cleaner island.
