The Government of Aruba has announced that the Burubundu Residences project is entering its execution phase following years of preparation. Minister of Infrastructure, Housing, and Communication, drs. Rene Herdé, confirmed that the development, located in the Pos Chiquito/Burubundu area, is now in its final preparatory stage before construction begins.
Originally started during the 2009-2017 AVP cabinet, the project aims to establish a new community with approximately 850 to 1,000 housing units. These will include family homes, apartments, and modern flats. Minister Herdé noted that the vision extends beyond building homes to creating a neighborhood with ample green spaces, recreational facilities, sports areas, and economic opportunities. “We are not talking only about houses, but a completely new community,” Herdé stated.
The design centers around a large “green heart,” focusing on tranquility and a balance between infrastructure and nature. Members of the public can currently view the plans and offer feedback at the DIP/DOW building. The government intends to finalize preparations over the next two months, after which investors and construction companies will be invited to participate. The construction process will follow all legal procedures outlined in the Landsverordening Ruimtelijke Ontwikkeling (LRO).
The government views Burubundu Residences as a crucial step toward a sustainable and inclusive future for Aruba, addressing housing needs while prioritizing quality of life and modern urban development.
