EPB San Nicolas student support remains an important priority as the school continues dealing with social and financial challenges affecting students and their families.
Director Rensley Mathilda said social problems among students remain an ongoing challenge and that Stichting EPB has systems in place to protect young people and provide support where possible.
According to Mathilda, the foundation works across schools in San Nicolas and Oranjestad to strengthen safety and ensure students are properly supported.
The school also tries to identify problems early and communicate with parents before situations become more difficult.
Financial Challenges Affect Families
Mathilda said financial pressure remains one of the recurring challenges facing schools and families.
EPB San Nicolas tries to remind parents early about school fees and provide support when genuine financial difficulties arise.
According to Mathilda, EPB’s school fees remain among the more affordable in Aruba.
Students in the first, second and third years pay Afl. 280, while fourth-year students pay Afl. 330.
He encouraged parents to make every effort to meet these obligations while emphasizing that the school also tries to assist families facing real hardship.
Internationally Recognized Education
Mathilda also highlighted the value of EPB’s vocational education and qualifications.
He said the school’s programs are connected to internationally recognized standards, giving graduates opportunities to continue their education or pursue careers abroad.
According to the director, students can potentially continue their studies in countries such as the Netherlands or Spain, while similar recognition also benefits students moving on to Colegio EPI.
School Relies on Community Support
Mathilda thanked police, the media, foundations and parents for supporting the school.
He said schools cannot carry the responsibility of educating and protecting students alone.
Parents may sometimes receive calls when problems occur, but Mathilda emphasized that the school also contacts families to share positive news and congratulate students who are performing well.
For the director, one of the most rewarding moments is seeing a student progress through education, complete an internship, earn a diploma and eventually enter the workforce.
The broader EPB San Nicolas student support approach aims to help students overcome social and financial obstacles while preparing them for successful participation in Aruba’s future.
