131 Den bo Bario Aruba has completed its 12th consecutive year of neighborhood outreach, reaching 1,126 addresses across different districts of the island.
During the initiative, 131 staff members visit neighborhoods to provide parents and other adults with information about the services available to children and young people.
Parents receive guidance about the reasons a child or teenager may contact 131, the days and hours when the service is available, and the fact that the service is both anonymous and free.
The organization describes 131 as an ally for parents in the upbringing and support of their children.
Conversations With Parents
In addition to explaining the service, staff members speak with parents about different developments affecting children and youth.
These conversations also focus on challenges parents may experience while raising and guiding their children.
At homes where staff are able to speak directly with adults, information about 131 is discussed in greater detail.
An informational pamphlet is also left at each address visited.
Ten Neighborhoods Visited
This year, the 131 team visited 10 neighborhoods across different districts.
The areas included Semelerstraat and surrounding neighborhoods, Bushiri, Madiki, Madiki Kavel, Seroe Patrishi, Tarabana, Cura Cabai Zuid, Village and De Vuyst.
In total, staff reached 1,126 addresses during the campaign.
The organization said its team was warmly received in the neighborhoods.
Parents and adults who spoke with staff expressed support for the service and appreciation for the assistance 131 provides to families.
Community Support Helps Maintain Service
The organization said its work with children and young people is made possible with support from several local partners.
These include Setar N.V., Aruba Airport Authority N.V., The Salamander Group, WEB Aruba N.V., Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association and ASTEC N.V.
Through 131 Den bo Bario Aruba, the organization continues working to increase awareness among parents and ensure children and youth know that confidential support is available when they need it.
