Fundacion Anti-Droga Aruba (FADA), represented by Rubiella Toppenberg, is emphasizing the critical importance of mental health within the community, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The foundation is urging the public to overcome fear and speak openly about mental health challenges while seeking assistance in a timely manner.
According to Toppenberg, the pandemic led many individuals to suffer in silence. However, since FADA launched a prevention campaign in 2021, there has been a notable positive change, with younger generations specifically feeling more empowered to discuss their well-being. Toppenberg stated that while increased dialogue is positive, the community must continue to speak structurally to ensure the message reaches decision-makers, allowing for the development of sustainable support programs.
FADA notes that daily life choices, from diet and exercise to financial and family issues, directly impact mental health. Ignoring these problems can exacerbate them over time. A significant concern for the foundation is the well-being of youth. Toppenberg called on parents to take their children seriously when they mention feeling unwell, depressed, or anxious.
