ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Lions Club Aruba Food Bags provided support to 50 children in need through the organization’s annual Back to School Food Bags project ahead of the start of the new school year.
The initiative is organized through the Aruba Lions Club’s Hunger Relief Committee and has become an annual community service project for the organization.
Each year, preparations begin in July when the club sends formal requests to businesses across Aruba seeking donations of food and beverages.
Members then collect the donated items on agreed dates and bring them to the Lion’s Den, where they are organized ahead of distribution.
Lions Club Aruba Food Bags Prepared for Schools
During the final weekend before schools reopen, Lions Club members gather at the Lion’s Den to prepare the Lions Club Aruba Food Bags.
Food and beverage donations are sorted and placed into individual bags before being distributed among club members.
The members then deliver the bags to schools, where they are provided to children identified as needing additional support.
The project was initially expected to produce approximately 80 bags this year.
However, the club ultimately completed 50 food bags.
Although the total was lower than originally planned, the organization said the assistance still represented a meaningful contribution to children and families preparing for the school year.
Annual Hunger Relief Project Supports Children
The Back to School Food Bags initiative forms part of the Aruba Lions Club’s broader efforts to address hunger and support vulnerable members of the community.
By coordinating donations from local businesses and using volunteers to prepare and distribute the bags, the project brings together different parts of the community to provide practical help.
The initiative also reflects Lions Clubs International’s wider focus on hunger relief and community service.
For participating members, preparing the bags has become an important annual activity.
The club said the project remains an inspiring experience for those involved and reflects its belief that caring for others involves giving time and resources to people who need support.
Aruba Lions Club Continues Community Programs
Beyond Lions Club Aruba Food Bags, the organization remains involved in several other community-service initiatives around the island.
These include programs providing hospital beds and wheelchairs, the Smile Mobile, health fairs and other forms of assistance.
The club said it intends to continue working with community partners to improve quality of life for residents through these programs.
The Back to School Food Bags project is one part of that wider commitment, with this year’s effort helping 50 children as they prepared to return to school.
Aruba Lions Club also reiterated its international service motto, “We Serve,” as it thanked the businesses, partners and volunteers who helped make this year’s distribution possible.
