A 70-year-old Canadian tourist was found safe on Sunday morning, May 17, following an extensive search operation in the Sero Biento area. The Maritime Operation Center (M.O.C.) of the Coast Guard located the woman near the Lagoon after she had been reported missing the previous evening.
The incident began on Saturday afternoon when the woman went for a walk in the Sero Biento (Banda Bao) region and failed to return. Her companion raised the alarm with local police as evening approached. In response, the Coast Guard immediately deployed a helicopter to initiate a search. As the operation continued into the night, a Dash aircraft was also utilized to maintain aerial surveillance of the area.
The search resumed at sunrise on Sunday with the assistance of the Coast Guard helicopter. The woman was located in the vicinity of the Lagoon during the morning hours. She was subsequently transported by helicopter to Hato, where ambulance personnel assessed her medical status. Authorities confirmed that she was in good condition. Following the medical check, police escorted the woman and her companion back to their accommodation.
Authorities noted that the successful outcome highlighted the importance of strong communication and collaboration between all agencies involved in rescue missions.
