The Aruba Police Force (KPA) is intensifying security operations in the center of Oranjestad, locally referred to as Playa, by extending an illegal weapon amnesty program. This initiative allows individuals to surrender firearms anonymously and without legal prosecution. The amnesty period has been officially extended and will remain in effect until May 24, 2026, providing residents with ample opportunity to participate.
As part of the operational changes, the KPA has installed a designated collection container in the Playa area for the disposal of illegal arms and ammunition. This measure aims to reduce the number of weapons on the street and enhance public safety in the city’s busy commercial hub. The police force views this amnesty as a vital tool for decreasing violence and fostering a more secure environment for daily activities.
Commissioner Ramon Arnhem emphasized the collective role of the community in these efforts. “Quality of life in the center of Oranjestad is the responsibility of us all,” Arnhem stated during a recent announcement. The Commissioner stressed that successful security in the capital relies on cooperation between the police force and local residents. These enhanced protocols reflect the KPA’s commitment to maintaining order and responding to the safety needs of the Aruban community.
