Parliamentarians and the tourism minister have emphasized that investment in road infrastructure is essential to keeping Aruba a high-quality tourism destination.
AVP parliamentarian Jennifer Arends-Reyes said that over more than seven years the roads have deteriorated considerably, with approximately 60 percent needing repair — especially the main arteries leading to the tourist zones. She added that investments must also benefit the communities of Noord, Playa and San Nicolas.
MEP parliamentarian Dangui Oduber joined in stressing the need for road infrastructure investment as part of the quality of the tourism product.
Minister of Tourism, Transport and Labor mr. Wendrick Cicilia explained that the tourism product includes roads, lighting, beaches and public spaces, and that the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA) and the Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (TPEF) have reserved resources for strategic investments.
Sero Colorado projects underway
Among the current projects are improvements to the Sero Colorado road, including the routes to Baby Beach, Rodgers Beach and the Sero Colorado Lookout Point, which will get new asphalt. Work started last week, and lighting projects are also underway. A multi-year strategic plan for the main roads in the tourist zone is in preparation.
