ARUBA — Emergency services responded Thursday afternoon to a tourist waverunner accident after a visitor lost consciousness while operating a personal watercraft and fell into the sea off the coast of Aruba.
Tourist Waverunner Accident Prompts Emergency Response
According to reports from the scene, police and ambulance crews were dispatched Thursday afternoon following reports that a tourist had become ill while riding a Waverunner and had fallen into the water. Upon arrival, first responders found a tourist over the age of 60 who had lost control of the watercraft and fallen into the sea, swallowing large quantities of water.
Bystanders and rescue personnel brought the victim to shore using a rescue board, where an ambulance was waiting. A second ambulance was called to assist with transport. The victim was taken to the hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.
Water Sport Safety for Aruba Visitors
The tourist waverunner accident highlights ongoing safety considerations for visitors participating in water sports on the island. Personal watercraft operations, while popular among tourists, carry inherent risks particularly for older riders or those with limited experience. The incident follows other recent emergencies involving visitor safety, including a drowning incident at an Aruba resort pool that also required emergency medical response.
Local authorities have not released additional details about the condition of the tourist or the specific location of the incident. Water sport operators on the island typically provide safety briefings before rental equipment is dispatched, though enforcement varies by operator and location.
