Otmar Oduber Temporarily Resigns from Parliament, Supports Eduard Pieters as His Successor

On the evening of September 18, 2025, Aruban parliamentarian Otmar Oduber announced his decision to temporarily step down from his position in Parliament in order to focus on a legal case he is facing in the High Court. Oduber described the case as one of abuse and humiliation, adding that he had been subjected to five years of legal persecution.

According to Oduber, not only were the initial accusations against him false, but he has also gained the trust and support of the people of Aruba during the most recent elections. Despite this, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has pursued further action, and Oduber has decided to appeal the case in the High Court. He expressed his determination to prove his complete innocence and emphasized that the actions against him were politically motivated and an abuse of power.

Oduber stated that his decision to step down is to honor the democratic principles and the political balance of Aruba’s government, particularly the Trias Politica, and to focus on his legal case. He emphasized that he remains committed to restoring respect and dignity to Aruba’s governing institutions.

Regarding his successor, Oduber expressed full support for Eduard Pieters as the next member of Parliament, describing him as well-prepared and doing excellent work in his role.

In his closing remarks, Oduber quoted the famous leader Martin Luther King Jr., saying, “The time is always right to do what is right,” and reaffirmed his belief in justice and freedom from persecution.
