AVP Supports Modernization of LNT Law

ORANJESTAD (AAN) – AVP faction leader Jennifer Arends-Reyes expressed support for modernizing Aruba’s Landsverordening Normering Topinkomens (LNT), describing the proposal as necessary to retain local talent and strengthen public institutions.

According to Arends-Reyes, Aruba continues facing challenges related to talent migration as highly qualified professionals seek better career opportunities and working conditions abroad.

She stated that Aruba cannot effectively strengthen its economy and institutions if local professionals are unable to grow and develop their careers on the island.

The parliamentarian explained that updating salary regulations could help retain professionals in strategic sectors including healthcare, education, finance, technology, and public administration.

Arends-Reyes emphasized that the proposed modernization does not aim to promote excessive salaries, but instead seeks to establish a realistic and competitive legal framework reflecting current economic conditions.

She also noted that Aruba competes internationally for highly qualified professionals and therefore must remain competitive in attracting and retaining skilled leadership.

The AVP leader referenced the Netherlands’ Wet Normering Topinkomens (WNT), which is reviewed annually to reflect economic and labor market developments.

According to Arends-Reyes, Aruba’s current salary limits have remained unchanged since 2022, while local institutions continue struggling to compete for experienced professionals.

She stressed that transparency, fiscal responsibility, and efficient use of public funds must remain central throughout any future adjustments to the legislation.

Officials stated that the discussion forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Aruba’s institutions, workforce stability, and long-term economic development.
