AVP parliamentarian Carlos Bermudez has submitted a series of questions to Public Health Minister Mervin Wyatt-Ras seeking dates, figures and accountability concerning the Aruba hospital crisis.
Bermudez said he wants a complete account of Horacio Oduber Hospital’s financial position, the possible consequences for care quality and continuity, and the effects on healthcare professionals and other staff.
Questions target independent investigation
The parliamentarian asked for the exact purpose, scope and time period of an announced independent investigation involving the hospital and the General Health Insurance system. He also wants to know who will conduct it, how independence will be protected and when the final report is expected.
Bermudez asked whether the findings will be submitted to Parliament and made public. He argued that the investigation should consider management, staffing, operational capacity, safety and continuity of care in addition to financial figures.
MP seeks timeline and five-year financial picture
His questions ask when the hospital board, supervisory bodies, AZV and the minister became aware of serious signals involving finances, staffing, medicines, maintenance and care continuity, as well as what action followed.
Bermudez also requested a five-year overview of hospital funding, actual spending and any deficit or surplus. He wants a distinction between insufficient funding, external cost increases, internal management decisions, investments and other contributing factors.
Care safeguards included in questions
The MP requested details on major investments and the cost of the hospital’s IT and electronic patient-record systems. He also asked what minimum staffing and operating-room capacity would be protected under any financial recovery plan.
Bermudez called for periodic parliamentary updates on the investigation, hospital finances, staffing, care quality and any recovery measures. His questions and concerns remain attributed to him pending responses from the minister and the institutions involved.
