Emilio van der Linde is set to return to Aruba on Thursday, September 24, after receiving a prosthesis and physical rehabilitation in Texas following a life-changing traffic collision earlier this year.
According to information from Aruba Shriners Club reported by AWE24, van der Linde was travelling to work during the New Year period when he was struck by a vehicle. He lost a leg the following day.
Treatment and a new prosthesis in Texas
Aruba Shriners Club arranged for van der Linde to travel to the United States on June 15 for treatment. The organization said he received a prosthesis and physiotherapy at Shriners Children’s Texas without cost to him or his family.
The club’s latest update says his recovery has progressed quickly as he learns to walk with the new prosthesis. The treatment marks a major new stage since ArubaNews.ca first reported on the Shriners-supported medical trip in June.
Public welcome planned at Aruba airport
Van der Linde’s arrival in Aruba is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. on September 24. Aruba Shriners Club has invited members of the community to gather at the airport and welcome him home.
The homecoming is a substantive follow-up to the June treatment announcement: van der Linde is returning with a new prosthesis after completing a period of rehabilitation in Texas.
