The president of the Aruba Police Union, Lito Laclé, says divisions within the force’s senior command are contributing to a wider institutional crisis.
Laclé described the leadership environment as split into opposing sides and said the lack of sincere cooperation is preventing the organization from functioning as it should. His comments were reported by 24ora on September 18.
Union calls for intervention
According to Laclé, the justice minister is already aware of the situation. The union expects the minister, who holds overall responsibility under Aruba’s Police Ordinance, to take control of the process and help restore cooperation.
If direct intervention does not resolve the dispute, Laclé said an impartial mediator should be appointed. He said the Aruba police command cannot remain fragmented when the force’s institutional well-being should be the shared priority.
SPA offers to help mediate
Laclé acknowledged reports that the split involves supporters and opponents of the police commissioner. He said the Police Union, known by its Dutch initials SPA, is prepared to mediate between the sides if asked.
The union leader linked that offer to SPA’s stated mission of protecting the well-being of its members and the police organization. The report did not identify a formal mediation process or announce any change in the command structure.
