ORANJESTAD (AAN) – San Nicolas Business Association (SNBA) President Errol de Freitas says Aruba’s government must do more to deliver meaningful economic change for San Nicolas, arguing that current initiatives are not enough to revitalize the district.
Speaking in an interview, De Freitas said the association has been focused on preparing upcoming projects but remains concerned about the lack of significant government action. While acknowledging the Bernhardstraat house-painting initiative, he said cosmetic improvements alone will not transform the area’s economy.
He also noted that communication between the government and the SNBA has been limited, although the association continues to maintain contact with some ministers. According to De Freitas, proposals developed by the SNBA should involve consultation with those who originated the ideas.
De Freitas stressed that major issues, including the future of the refinery lands and Aruba’s energy policy, should be prioritized because they have the potential to create immediate economic opportunities for San Nicolas.
He said the association hopes to continue discussions with the government on practical solutions that will strengthen the local economy and support the long-term development of San Nicolas.
