VIEWS

The upcoming Tweede Kamer elections will take place in Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten from October 22 to October 29, 2025. Dutch citizens living abroad can now register to vote in Aruba, with the registration deadline set for September 17, 2025. Registering on time ensures your participation in one of the most significant democratic events for Dutch nationals outside the Netherlands.

How to Register in Aruba

During the election period, the Representation of the Netherlands in Aruba will function as a briefstembureau (mail-in voting office). This secure polling station is responsible for receiving, verifying, and counting ballots.

To register:

  • Complete the online registration form.
  • Provide the required identification documents.
  • Confirm your registration via email.

If you have voted before, follow the instructions from the Hague Stembureau in your email to reconfirm your participation.

Who Is Eligible to Vote?

You can register to vote in Aruba if you are:

  • A Dutch citizen who has lived in the Netherlands for at least 10 years.
  • A Dutch national residing in Aruba, Curaçao, or Sint Maarten.
  • A Dutch public service employee working abroad, or their spouse, partner, or guardian living at the same address.

This ensures Dutch citizens abroad remain active in shaping national policy.

Voting Options and Ballot Materials

Once registered, you will receive a briefstembewijs (proof of registration) that allows you to vote by mail. You will also collect:

  • An orange return envelope
  • A white ballot envelope
  • A ballot paper (available starting October 1, 2025)

You may return your ballot by mail or cast your vote in person at the Dutch Representation between October 22 and 29, 2025. If you cannot vote in person, you can authorize another individual to vote on your behalf.

Why Register Early?

Registering well before the deadline gives you enough time to:

  • Receive your voting materials.
  • Familiarize yourself with the process.
  • Avoid delays or complications.

The Dutch Representation guarantees voter privacy, security, and transparency throughout the election process.

Important Election Dates

  • September 17, 2025 – Final day to register.
  • October 1, 2025 – Ballot papers and envelopes become available.
  • October 22–29, 2025 – Voting period at the Dutch Representation in Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten.
