Motor Vehicle Tax Payments require responsibility and discipline, according to Meverly Romano of the Department of Taxes (DIMP), which is reminding vehicle owners to meet payment deadlines and avoid costly penalties.
Every motor vehicle owner in Aruba is responsible for paying vehicle registration taxes. The official deadlines are January 31 and June 30 each year. If payment is not made by these dates, a 50 percent penalty is automatically applied beginning the following day.
Romano explained that while many citizens consistently fulfill their obligations, others face financial challenges that make timely payments more difficult.
To assist residents, DIMP offers a partial payment system. Through this option, vehicle owners can begin making payments as early as September for the following year. Citizens can contribute monthly amounts, starting at AWG 50, until the full tax amount is paid before the deadline.
The department encourages taxpayers to use this system to manage their Motor Vehicle Tax Payments more effectively and avoid penalties.
“This requires awareness and discipline from citizens so they can meet their motor vehicle tax obligations on time,” Romano stated.
DIMP reported that 13,909 vehicles are currently operating without having their vehicle tax fully paid. Among those, 795 motorcycles have not paid their 2026 registration tax, while 11,679 passenger vehicles with A-license plates remain non-compliant.
The department is urging all vehicle owners who have not yet completed their Motor Vehicle Tax Payments for the second half of the year to take action before June 30.
DIMP emphasized that beginning July 1, the system will automatically apply a 50 percent surcharge to all unpaid vehicle tax accounts.
Officials hope that increased awareness and use of the partial payment program will help more residents stay compliant and avoid unnecessary financial penalties related to Motor Vehicle Tax Payments.
