Vehicle Inspection Responsibility Rests on Owners, according to Richella Dorothal of Aruba’s Department of Technical Inspections (DTI), which continues to work closely with the Aruba Police Force (KPA) to promote road safety and vehicle compliance.
DTI plays a key role in ensuring that vehicle owners comply with mandatory inspections and maintain the proper documentation required during traffic controls. The department also collaborates with authorities on matters involving UTVs and other motor vehicles operating on Aruba’s roads.
According to Dorothal, Vehicle Inspection Responsibility Rests on Owners even though DTI regularly sends reminders to registered customers when their vehicle inspection dates are approaching. However, not all vehicles are registered within the system, meaning some owners may not receive notifications before their inspection certificates expire.
To improve efficiency, DTI is currently working on digitalization initiatives that will modernize appointment scheduling, registration management, and automatic reminder services.
Dorothal noted that compliance with vehicle inspections often lags behind compliance with vehicle insurance requirements. As a result, some vehicles continue to operate with expired inspection certificates and, in certain cases, without valid insurance coverage.
The Vehicle Inspection Responsibility Rests on Owners message highlights the importance of maintaining both valid inspection documents and insurance policies. These documents are especially critical in the event of accidents or other incidents on public roads.
DTI also maintains ongoing cooperation with the Department of Public Transportation (DTP) regarding vehicles such as UTVs and V-Cars. The agency regularly shares information about vehicles, individuals, and companies whose inspections are no longer valid.
In addition, DTI conducts inspections for large rental car fleets and other businesses operating multiple vehicles, coordinating inspection schedules to make the process more efficient.
Dorothal emphasized that while DTI continues to strengthen and modernize its services, Vehicle Inspection Responsibility Rests on Owners. Motorists are encouraged not to rely solely on reminders and should actively monitor inspection dates to ensure all required documents remain valid and up to date.
The department reminds all vehicle owners that staying compliant with inspection and insurance requirements contributes to safer roads and greater protection for everyone in Aruba.
