ORANJESTAD (AAN) – MEP Parliamentarian Evelyn Wever-Croes said Minister Gerlien Croes has six weeks to decide whether to accept or reject the recommendation issued by the LAR Advisory Committee regarding her official trip to Curaçao aboard a private jet.
Speaking during the MEP parliamentary faction’s weekly press conference, Wever-Croes said the advisory committee informed the party on July 10 that its recommendation had been completed and submitted to the minister. According to the parliamentarian, the minister must now provide MEP with a copy of the advice and issue a formal decision within six weeks.
The case concerns the minister’s official trip to Curaçao on a private aircraft. Wever-Croes said MEP has repeatedly requested information about who paid for the flight, when payment was made, how much was paid, as well as documentation relating to the aircraft’s commercial permit and passenger list.
According to Wever-Croes, the requested information has not yet been provided. She argued that ministers are accountable for official travel and that Parliament must be able to review the information to fulfill its constitutional oversight role, particularly in relation to Aruba’s integrity laws.
