ORANJESTAD (AAN) – MEP Parliamentarian Xiomara Maduro has questioned why Aruba still does not have a Landsverordening Instelling Ministeries (LIM) more than a year after the AVP-Futuro government took office.
Maduro said the law is essential because it clearly defines the responsibilities assigned to each government ministry. Without it, she argued, the public cannot easily determine which minister is accountable for specific policy areas or public spending.
She pointed to several examples where ministers appeared to be handling matters outside their official portfolios, including issues involving the refinery, environmental projects and events in San Nicolas. According to Maduro, while cooperation between ministries is positive, it should not replace clearly defined responsibilities.
Maduro also said the absence of the law makes it more difficult for Parliament to hold the government accountable, as legislators cannot effectively question the appropriate minister when responsibilities have not been formally established.
She called on the government to clarify why the legislation has not yet been enacted, saying transparency and good governance begin with clearly defining ministerial responsibilities.
