ORANJESTAD – MEP parliamentary leader Evelyn Wever-Croes has filed a formal complaint with Parliament President A.M. Sneek following an incident during the public parliamentary meeting held on July 10.
According to Wever-Croes, Astrid Vries (AVP) occupied a seat reserved for members of the press and recorded videos of MEP parliamentarians. She said it was later confirmed that Vries was not representing Radio Hits 94, despite initially being identified as a media representative during the meeting.
In her official letter, Wever-Croes stated that she contacted the owner of Radio Hits 94 and received written confirmation that Vries is neither an employee nor a representative of the station.
The MEP leader argued that press gallery seating is intended exclusively for accredited members of the media covering parliamentary proceedings. She expressed concern that allowing unauthorized individuals into the press section could affect the order, security and integrity of Parliament’s meetings.
Wever-Croes has asked the President of Parliament to explain how Vries was granted access to the press gallery, what procedures are in place to verify media credentials and what measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
