ORANJESTAD (AAN) – MEP parliamentarians Evelyn Wever-Croes, Rocco Tjon, and Edgard Vrolijk presented their case to the Landsrechtscollege (LAR) yesterday afternoon regarding an ongoing dispute concerning a private jet trip taken by Minister Gerlien Croes.
The opposition party is seeking clarity on a trip the Minister made to Curaçao in November. Specifically, MEP wants to know if the Minister paid for the private flight, the amount paid, and the recipient. They also requested receipts.
Following the hearing, Wever-Croes stated that while the presentation went well, the MEP faction was disappointed that the Minister did not provide any documents or evidence. According to Wever-Croes, the Minister’s legal counsel focused on technicalities regarding the method of request, arguing it should have been sent digitally rather than through the President of Parliament.
Wever-Croes countered that communication between the Minister and Parliament is standardly routed through the President of Parliament. She further noted that while the Minister referenced a previous account of her travels, that document did not address the specific questions regarding the private jet usage.
Wever-Croes emphasized that seven specific questions regarding payment remain unanswered. She expressed regret that Parliament is forced to seek legal intervention to obtain this information.
