Dutch caribbean worldpride presence highlights equality across the kingdom

ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Dutch Caribbean WorldPride participation brought attention to equality and LGBTQ+ rights across the Kingdom during Amsterdam’s internationally recognised Canal Parade.

The Caribbean parts of the Kingdom were represented aboard the colourful St. 3 Layers boat during the parade on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

The boat participated under the theme “ONE WORLD · ONE LOVE,” promoting visibility, inclusion and greater dialogue about differences in safety, acceptance and legal rights across the Kingdom’s countries and islands.

Aruba Represented During Canal Parade

Sidney Kock, public-relations representative for the Cabinet of Aruba in the Netherlands, participated in the parade on behalf of the Cabinet.

The Aruban report said the boat was organised by Stichting 3Layers Foundation for Equality under the leadership of Aruban organiser Angelo Tromp.

The foundation works to increase LGBTQ+ visibility and promote emancipation and equality.

Its participation provided a platform for Caribbean voices within a major international event attracting communities, activists and allies from around the world.

Boat Builds on Earlier Kingdom Campaign

The Kingdom boat first joined Amsterdam’s Canal Parade in 2015 under the motto “One Kingdom, One Love.”

More than a decade later, St. 3 Layers returned during WorldPride with the renewed “ONE WORLD · ONE LOVE” concept.

According to the official participant description, the 2026 boat was intended as both a celebration and a social statement. Its message recognised that the Kingdom forms one constitutional relationship while LGBTQ+ people may experience significantly different levels of acceptance, protection and personal safety depending on the country or island where they live.

Participation Promotes Dialogue and Inclusion

St. 3 Layers said its objectives included strengthening social cohesion, encouraging intercultural dialogue and making inclusion more visible.

The organisation described unity as something that must be demonstrated through daily cooperation, respect and shared responsibility rather than remaining only an abstract ideal.

Participation by representatives from the Dutch Caribbean allowed the parade to highlight experiences and concerns that may differ from those in the European Netherlands.

The source announcement did not identify a new policy, funding commitment or legal reform resulting from the parade. The participation should therefore be presented as advocacy, representation and public awareness.

Canal Parade Featured 80 Boats

St. 3 Layers was officially listed as participant number 64 in the 2026 Canal Parade, which permitted a maximum of 80 boats.

The procession travelled from the Oosterdok through the Nieuwe Herengracht, Amstel and Prinsengracht before concluding at the Westerdok.

The parade took place from noon until 6 p.m. on August 1 and served as one of the main public events of WorldPride Amsterdam.

Amsterdam Hosts WorldPride for First Time

WorldPride Amsterdam runs from July 25 through August 8, 2026.

The programme includes more than 300 activities, including cultural events, community gatherings, a human-rights conference, the WorldPride Village and the concluding WorldPride March.

The 2026 celebration also coincides with 25 years since the Netherlands became the first country to introduce marriage equality for same-sex couples.

Caribbean Voices Included in Global Event

The Dutch Caribbean WorldPride presence ensured that the Caribbean side of the Kingdom formed part of the Canal Parade’s international message.

Through the St. 3 Layers boat, participants called attention to the need for equality, social acceptance and protection throughout every part of the Kingdom.

Aruba’s participation through Sidney Kock also demonstrated support for visibility and continued dialogue concerning LGBTQ+ communities in Aruba and the wider Caribbean region.

The parade provided an international stage for celebrating progress while recognising that differences in acceptance and rights remain subjects requiring continued attention.
