In a statement, Member of Parliament Eduard Pieters of the PPA faction strongly criticized President of Parliament Marlon Sneek, accusing him of manipulating information regarding the Rijkswet HOFA. Pieters argued that it is unacceptable for the President to misinform the Aruban public about the legislation.
The disagreement follows public claims by Sneek that the local commercial sector supports the Rijkswet HOFA. In response, the PPA faction initiated contact with business guilds and owners to verify this stance. Pieters reported that their investigation revealed that no official support had been expressed by the business community.
“To our surprise, several confirmed they never expressed, neither verbally nor in writing, that they are pro Rijkswet HOFA,” Pieters stated. He emphasized that the sector has no official position supporting the law. The MP accused the President of creating a false narrative on a constitutional matter.
Pieters further raised concerns about broader parliamentary leadership, stating that Parliament cannot become a “propaganda office.” He highlighted that the institution must remain neutral to protect democracy, criticizing the recent suspension of meetings and public misinformation as evidence of lost direction.
Describing the topic as serious regarding credibility and transparency, Pieters concluded that political leadership must be based on truth rather than manipulation, stating that the public deserves clarity.
