Employees and STA Demand Thiel Corporation Pay Salaries or Face Legal Action

The president of the Aruban Workers Union (STA), Diego de Cuba, stated in an interview with Diario this week that Thiel Corporation has still not paid its employees. This ongoing issue led STA and the affected workers to gather in front of the company’s main office on Emmastraat to demand immediate action.

According to De Cuba, the company’s management spoke briefly with union delegates, but workers remain unconvinced. “We already know their stories, and this situation is extremely unfortunate,” he said.

The concerns are not limited to the unpaid November salary, but also include a bonus that employees are expecting. With December already underway, many workers are anxious. “If they couldn’t guarantee November’s salary, how can employees trust that December wages and other obligations will be met?” De Cuba emphasized.

The company reportedly assured that the November payroll issue would be resolved before noon on Tuesday. However, STA insists on clarity regarding December salaries as well, stressing that workers cannot be left waiting until late in the month to discover there are no funds.

De Cuba attempted to contact the mediator, who appeared unavailable at the time, but requested a joint meeting with company representative Anthony Thiel later in the afternoon to address the matter directly.

He noted that a situation like this is damaging — not only for the employees, but also for the company and the island of Aruba as a whole.

STA and the employees have agreed that if salaries are not paid by Tuesday, they will take Thiel Corporation to court.
